MCDC Groups

The Monroe County Democratic Committee has several outreach initiatives, including the the Kennedy Council and Democratic Women’s Leadership Council. These groups help us reach out into different communities to recruit activists, progressive thinkers, proactive citizens and candidates. Members serve as advisors to elected officials and candidates on issues that are important to them.

Vision

The Kennedy Council kicked-off in 2003. An affiliate of the Monroe County Democratic Committee, the group provides a forum for young people (40 and under) dedicated to improving the Greater Rochester Area to discuss and debate important community issues in an atmosphere that is fun and informative.

 

Goals

The Council's purpose is to involve and engage Greater Rochester's next generation of politically active, socially conscious and proactive Democrats so they can:

  • Run for Office
  • Impact Issues
  • Foster Debate/Discussion
  • Help on Campaigns
  • Serve the Community

Events

  • Monthly Meetings: First Tuesday of each month – 5:30PM - Merchants Grill (881 Merchants Road). 
  • Recent guest speakers include: Mayor Robert Duffy, Former Mayor Bill Johnson, District Attorney Mike Green, Media Personalities - Mike Caputo (WXXI and Messenger Post Newspapers) and Joseph Spector (Democrat and Chronicle), County Legislators Carrie Andrews, Willie Joe Lightfoot and Carla Palumbo, Former City Councilman Wade Norwood, City Councilmen Adam McFadden, Bill Pritchard, and City School Board Member Malik Evans
  • Other events as scheduled. 

The KC is a really fun, progressive group and we'd love to have you get involved with us.

Vision

The Democratic Women’s Leadership Council was founded in March of 2004. An affiliate of the Monroe County Democratic Committee, the group is dedicated to creating a strong, inclusive voice within the Monroe County Democratic Committee, in order to promote women candidates, develop political platforms and take necessary action to improve the lives of all women in Monroe County.

Goals

The Council’s purpose is to:

  • Call attention to women’s issues.
  • Influence elected officials to make legislative decisions that will improve the quality of women’s lives.
  • Motivate more women to become politically active.
  • Foster debate/discussion.
  • Serve the Community.

Core Issues

  • Women’s health
  • Economic justice for women
  • Violence against women
  • Education
  • Membership, recruitment and promotion of women candidates
  • Mentoring program

Events

  • Monthly Meetings: We generally meet the second Monday of each month, 5:30PM at Democratic Headquarters (1150 University Avenue). 
  • Other events as scheduled.
